	There are a number ways you can plan your vacation via The Discovery Coast Passage. Either coming or going, by joining Method 3 with Method 4 you can create a loop in your road trip! NOTE: Overnight sailings do not have any sleeping arrangements. You are allowed to bring your own sleeping gear, even to pitch a tent on the deck, but the ferry itself has no sleeping accommodations for its passengers.

From Chaunigan to Vancouver

Monday 8:00 AM departure, arrives in Port Hardy same day at 9:00 PM

• Leave Chaunigan Sunday by 11:00 AM (checkout) and drive to Hanceville (1.5 hours)
• Drive to Bella Coola (5 hours)
• Stay overnight in Bella Coola and board the ferry in the morning.
• It’s non-stop to Port Hardy and then you stay overnight on Vancouver Island.
• Drive to Nanaimo (4.5 hrs, 391km)
• Ferry to Horseshoe Bay (1.5 hours on the water)
• Drive to Vancouver (1 hour)

Ferry stops for passengers in Shearwater, McLoughlin Bay
Wednesday 7:30 AM departure, arrives in Port Hardy next day, Thursday, at 7:45 AM

• Leave Chaunigan Tuesday by 11:00 AM (checkout) and drive to Hanceville (1.5 hours)
• Drive to Bella Coola (5 hours)
• Stay overnight in Bella Coola and board the ferry in the morning.
• Stay overnight on the ferry
• Drive to Nanaimo (4.5 hrs, 391km)
• Ferry to Horseshoe Bay (1.5 hours on the water)
• Drive to Vancouver (1 hour)

Ferry stops for passengers in Ocean Falls, Shearwater, and McLoughlin Bay
Friday 8:00 AM departure, arrives in Port Hardy next day, Saturday, at 9:00 AM

• Leave Chaunigan Tuesday by 11:00 AM (checkout) and drive to Hanceville (1.5 hours)
• Drive to Bella Coola (5 hours)
• Stay overnight in Bella Coola and board the ferry in the morning.
• Stay overnight on the ferry
• Drive to Nanaimo (4.5 hrs, 391km)
• Ferry to Horseshoe Bay (1.5 hours on the water)
• Drive to Vancouver (1 hour)

From Vancouver to Chaunigan
Please note that these instructions are only a guideline and do not consider times when there are multiple sailing waits out of the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal. In the summer, it’s not unheard of to have to wait a sailing or two during peak periods. Please be sure to check with BC Ferries for the best advice about making it in time for your intended departure out of Horseshoe Bay.

THIS IS THE MOST SCENIC ROUTE

Ferry stops for passengers in McLoughlin Bay, Shearwater, Klemtu, and Ocean Falls.
Saturday 9:30 PM departure, arrives in Bella Coola two days later, Monday, at 7:00 AM

• Drive to Horseshoe Bay on Saturday morning and take the ferry to Departure Bay, Nanaimo.
• You have to be on one of the morning ferries, or the latest on the one that departs at 12:30 PM.
• Arrive in Nanaimo about an hour and a half later then drive to Port Hardy (4.5 hrs, 391km).
• Remember fill your gas tank in Port Hardy before you board the ferry.
• Sleep on the ferry Saturday and Sunday nights and enjoy the views all day Sunday.
• Arrive at 7:00 AM in Bella Coola and drive to Hanceville (5 hours).
• Turn right at Lee’s Corner (Hanceville) and drive to Chaunigan Lake (1.5 hours).

Ferry stops for passengers in McLoughlin Bay and Shearwater.
Tuesday 9:30 AM departure, arrives in Bella Coola next day, Wednesday, at 6:30 AM

• Drive to Horseshoe Bay and take the ferry to Departure Bay, Nanaimo.
• Drive to Port Hardy and stay overnight.
• Remember to fill your gas tank in Port Hardy before you board the ferry.
• Sleep on the ferry Tuesday night
• Arrive at 6:30 AM in Bella Coola and drive to Hanceville (5 hours).
• Turn right at Lee’s Corner (Hanceville) and drive to Chaunigan Lake (1.5 hours).

Our Mid-Week Legendary Lodge Plan will coincide with the Thursday ferry out of Port Hardy.
There are no ports of call during this journey.
Thursday 9:30 AM departure, arrives in Bella Coola same day, Thursday, at 10:30 PM

• Drive to Horseshoe Bay and take the ferry to Departure Bay, Nanaimo.
• Drive to Port Hardy and stay overnight.
• Remember to fill your gas tank in Port Hardy before you board the ferry.
• Stay overnight in Bella Coola.
• Next morning drive to Hanceville (5 hours).
• Turn right at Lee’s Corner (Hanceville) and drive to Chaunigan Lake (1.5 hours).
